Course explanation:
Discover Scuba Diving (1 or 2 dives, equipment included)
This is your opportunity to discover the magical world of colourful fish and living reefs in crystal clear, warm water – Discover Scuba Diving. There’s nothing like it! Scuba diving is much easier than you think and a try dive will prepare you to participate in this new sport that awaits you. One of our professional dive instructors will teach you everything you need to know and under their guidance, you will learn the skills you need to enjoy this first experience underwater – at your own pace! All you require is your swimming kit, sunscreen protection and a towel. As you won’t get a dive licence after this experience, you you can choose to participate in a PADI Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver course upon completion.
PADI Scuba Diver (2 dives, equipment & certification included)
The PADI Scuba Diver course is an entry-level course and your first step on the diver training program. This course qualifies divers to dive to a maximum depth of 12m under the guidance of a dive professional. There are a total of two dives and skills to be done and these are usually executed over one day. Once finished, you will be issued with an internationally recognized PADI dive licence (eCard) that is valid for life.
At any given moment, you can do the Upgrade Open Water course (see price list) from PADI Scuba Diver to Open Water Diver by reading the last two chapters of the OWD manual by self-study, do the final exam and complete the last two confined- & open water dives. The dives can be done in one day. Included in the course is an eCard to reflect your new status as an Open Water Diver.
PADI Open Water Diver (4 dives, equipment & certification included)
The PADI Open Water Diver course can be done after the Scuba Diver course but also as an entry-level course and as your first step on the diver training program. You choose! This course qualifies divers to dive to a maximum depth of 18m. For 10 to 14-year-olds, there is the Junior Open Water Diver, which certifies the diver down to a maximum depth of 12m. The Junior Open Water Diver is exactly the same course and when the diver reaches the age of 15, they can order a replacement eCard to reflect their new Open Water Diver status. There are a total of four dives and skills to be done and these are usually executed over two days. Once the skills for each dive are complete, your instructor will take you on an underwater tour to help your confidence grow.
The Open Water Referral course (see price list) includes four open water dives including a refresher and is for students who have already completed their theory and pool sessions before the holiday. The new digital learning program means that you can do the theory and the final exam at home at your own pace, and then find a dive centre near your home for your pool sessions. We are available online should you have any queries about the theory. Once you have completed all your pool sessions you are then ready for your open water dives in Menorca. You can start the Open Water Referral course whenever you want, but you should complete the four open water dives within 12 months of starting the course.
PADI Adventure Diver (3 dives, equipment & certification included)
Ready for the next step? The PADI Adventure Diver course is part of the Advanced OW course and ideal for those who have limited time during their holidays, but want to broaden their horizons and take their adventures to a higher level. The course consists of three open water dives, which can be chosen by you in consultation with us; such as wreck, underwater photography and night diving. Once you have decided on your three dives you will study the necessary sections of your e-Learning manual covering the dives you have chosen. You will then complete the knowledge reviews for each section and before each dive your instructor will give a briefing. That’s it! No exam, but lots of practice instead.
PADI Advanced Open Water (5 dives, equipment & certification included)
Ready for your next adventure? The PADI Advanced OW Diver course introduces you to a range of new diving possibilities and certifies you to dive to 30m. You’ll experience the underwater world with greater confidence and competence. The course consists of five open water dives, of which one is a deep dive and the other a navigation dive. The other three dives can be chosen by you in consultation with us. Once you have decided on your five dives you will study the necessary sections of your e-Learning manual covering the dives you have chosen. You will then complete the knowledge reviews for each section and before each dive your instructor will give a briefing. That’s it! No exam, but lots of practice instead.
PADI Rescue Diver (5 dives, equipment & certification included)
In the PADI Rescue Diver course you learn to prevent and manage problems before a dive and while in the water. It prepares you to deal with dive emergencies, using a variety of techniques. During five dives, consisting of four training units with rescue scenarios, you’ll put your knowledge and skills into practice. Scuba divers describe the Rescue Diver course as the most challenging, yet most rewarding course they’ve ever taken. A pre-requisite for certification is to have CPR and first aid training done within the past 24 months, or you can complete the PADI EFR – CPR & First Aid course (see price list) during training.
PADI Master Scuba Diver (application to PADI)
Become a Master Scuba Diver at at Son Bou Scuba! The MSD rating is the highest non-professional rating in the PADI system. It puts you in the top 2% of recreational divers and means that you have acquired significant training and experience in a variety of dive environments. Before you can call yourself a MSD you should have the PADI Rescue Diver certification and hold a current first aid qualification (such as EFR). The Master Scuba Diver course comprises of five PADI specialties that depend on your interests and local diving conditions. So, although for example ice diving is not possible on Menorca, we have enough to choose from. MSD is a recognition rating, this means that you’ll fill in an application and send this to PADI.
PADI Divemaster (2 weeks of training with the dive centre)
If you have 2 weeks of vacation in Menorca, love to dive and maybe even want to become a dive instructor, at SBS you have the opportunity to do your PADI Divemaster course. These will be your first steps on the professional path, which is why this course has nothing to do with brewing coffee or hauling scuba tanks….
With us, you will learn how to interact with divers, give briefings of dive sites, assist with other courses and guide divers during their dives; as if you were already a divemaster! We also teach you everything you need to know about physical, equipment and teaching, among other things, so that your theoretical knowledge is on the same level as a dive instructor.
Training for instructors ...
For divemasters, assistant instructors and instructors, we offer several courses to increase your professional knowledge, such as DAN Oxygen Instructor and EFR First Aid Instructor. If you want to know more about any of these courses, please send us an email or drop by in the dive center.
